Solar Trackers
Tracking greatly improves the performance of PV systems since it lets the PV panels follow the sun all the time. As a result, the panel surface is always at an optimum angle to the suns rays which guarantees the highest efficiency.
Philadelphia solar tracking systems include a frame on which nine photovoltaic panels with a total power of 2.16Kwp are mounted.
The frame moves so that it faces the sun as it travels across the sky during the day. The frame is driven by a 80 W dc motor which revolves in response to the movement of the sun.
The selection of the motor is based on its supply voltage, speed (rev/min), and gear ratio. The gear ratio can decrease the motion ratio even further. All these selections are based on the criteria of producing enough torque to move the heavy photovoltaic panels.
The movement of the motor is controlled by a microcontroller that turns the motor on and off depending on the time during the day.
